Jehovah Rapha {Names of God: Week 3}

0

It seems everyone we encounter these days is in need of healing.  Whether it is physical, emotional, relational and/or spiritual- the need is real and necessary.  In Exodus 15:26, God reveals one of His names to us, Jehovah Rapha – The Lord Who Heals You.  This is the only time this name is used in scripture.  Go back and read the events leading to this revealing in Exodus 15: 22-27.  Keep in mind the Israelites had just witnessed an enormous miracle from God in the parting of the Red Sea, and now they arrive at Marah suddenly bitter.

Are you ever bitter?  Bitter in Exodus 15:3 is angry, discontented, or heavy.  The Israelites were thirsty.  They wanted water, but God reveals Himself as healer.  Why?  From the beginning of the journey, God wants His people to know they need Him first and foremost.  He will provide for their every need if they will only rely on Him completely.

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;  my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1

Does your soul thirst for God?  Do you earnestly seek Him?

El Olam {Names of God: Week 2}

1

I heard a song the other day an old boyfriend used to sing to me. Part of the lyrics went like this:

“Need you by my side, girl you’ll be my bride.
You’ll never be denied everlasting love.
From the very start, open up your heart,
Be a lasting part of everlasting love.
Real love will last forever.”

The song, “Everlasting Love,” by Carl Carlton would make me giddy when he sang them. The other day they just made me laugh remembering how much I believed those words at the time. Turns out our everlasting love lasted about a year.

Too often we throw words like everlasting, forever, and eternity around in everyday situations. The pick-up line at school is taking forever. We have to wait an eternity to get back to the doctor in the emergency room. We’ve placed negative connotations on these words as if forever is somehow a bad thing.

Everlasting, Eternal God- El Olam, provides a different perspective on forever. We are promised if we are in Christ, we will spend forever with our Lord.

“Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17

Shouldn’t this give us a new perspective? Perhaps the large amounts of time we spend waiting in lines or sitting in waiting rooms are our opportunities to spend time with Him. We can choose to pray, read His Word, or share with someone else who feels like they’re waiting “forever” about the true, eternal love we have. You could even share those lyrics above with them, because how true they are in El Olam.

Elohim {Names of God: Week 1}

1

Elohim – God is creator. Elohim created everything from nothing. With a Word (John 1:1), the universe was called forth into existence. Yet when Elohim came to man, He formed him from the dust and breathed him into being. Are you praying this week to Elohim, the one who breathed life into you? Are you being still (letting go of your concerns) and knowing that He is Elohim? (Psalm 46:10) Are you asking, “When may I come to see Elohim’s face?” (Psalm 42:3). CHOOSE to take time this holiday weekend to explore and meditate on Elohim’s creation – not only on what your eyes observe around you, but in the examination of your own life.

I’m Weary

3

I’m weary.

Not in the physically exhausted, overwhelmed sort of way; but the weary that sneaks in disguised as disappointment and doubt. The weary begins with a whisper that what I do doesn’t matter and what I say isn’t heard.

And then I just want to stop. Give up.
Become complacent.

Because all of the hours and efforts and prayers seem empty and pointless, and nothing ever seems to change.

But this is the weary speaking, and I need to shut my thoughts down long enough to let God speak. And He does. He always does.

So He reminds me that it is never about my effort or time. It is and always has been all about Him.

Time with Him.
Talking with Him.
Trusting Him.

In these times with Him, He is changing me. Stretching me. Growing me. This is where He is leading. Teaching me to Follow Him. Focus on Him. Feast on Him.

And with this gentle reminder, I become a little less weary.

God is a bully

4

God is a bully. I would rather chew glass than share this observation with you (many of you are probably saying, “I wish you were chewing glass too”). Others may be shaking their heads in righteous indignation for God since I called Him a bully. But hear me out on this:

A bully uses superior strength.

Last time I checked – God is all-powerful. God, Himself, asks in Genesis 18:14, “Is anything too difficult for the LORD?”

A bully targets the weak.

Well, I am definitely the weak. 1 Corinthians 1:4:10 tells me, “…we are weak, but you are strong

Then there is this third trait of a bully – they force you to do what they want.

For example, one that fits much too tightly might be challenging to remove buy viagra and could slice off circulation inside penis entirely. Allopathic cures like Silagra 100mg tablets are available in delicious flavors such http://icks.org/n/bbs/content.php?co_id=FALL_WINTER_2004&mcode=40&smcode=40t0 levitra prescription as vanilla, strawberry, mint, banana, orange etc. It reduces food cravings of person safely and levitra prices naturally. There are so many factors that tadalafil in canada cause this situation. BUT, here is where I encounter the real issue – me.

God cannot be a bully. It is my own disobedience rebelling against His will for my life which causes my feelings of intimidation. No, God is not a bully. He’s not trying to harm or intimidate us, he’s trying to use us as a pivotal part of His plan to bring glorification to himself. Which he is due. He is the Sovereign God of my life whether I allow Him to participate or not. He has already gone before me to prepare all my days and then patiently waits to see if my footsteps follow in obedience to His commands:

The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 3:28

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

So I take these to heart and ponder my impression of God’s involvement in my life. I come to the full realization: the issues are all mine- fear, disobedience, faithlessness, and insecurity. But God says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10). So here is my choice- am I going to obey or not? A wise person told me just this week that if I’m not obeying I’m disobeying. Profound, right? She might of well have said 1 +1 =2. I have a choice to make – obey or not obey. So I sit here today, in obedience, writing this (but still wanting to chew glass) because He said to. And it may be nothing more than an opportunity to show God I am willing to obey Him. Or maybe, just maybe, it is part of my Sovereign God’s plan for my hope and my future. Let’s wait and see.ENTERINGIN
